Hey I’m not a miner ………but I am a gardener….I’m the market gardeners cousin…..the horticultural specialist…….a VITICULTURIST…a proverbial wine industry “dirtman” goddamit!

When you last picked up a handful of dirt ,where were you??….. …On the front verandah……in the school changerooms…..cleaning the car…..falling off the gocart…?
How did you feel about it?
What about a handful of dirt in the vineyard or football field ,was it fun and does anyone really care anyway?
Well…..I do… because we really need to come to grips with our existence sitting on top of this earth …… ALL of our essential food comes from soil…..so we should respect our dependance….. no matter how distant it feels or bullet-proof we may seem….A familiarity with healthy dirt or SOIL is something many Australians have experienced that other nations have not….so respect it we do!!We aren’t trendy environmentalists .Many of us had a close encounter with the SOIL in our childhood when it was unpolluted and healthy and we grew more sturdy and stronger as a result…less allergies…less infection…less anxiety about everything.
My vineyards are such soils and our Cellar door and our old hut are built from it!!!
Our wines reflect their healthy origins too.
So we think we are doing OK coming to grips with nature…what about you? Does it matter to you and yours?When did you last enjoy “getting down and dirty”?
